Yes, I realize it's still winter. Having to wear two pairs of tights under jeans for an early morning jaunt to my 7:30 class is more than enough of an indicator that we have a few months before real spring weather arrives. However, the end of Christmas break doesn't have to be too depressing; there are so many good things to look forward to: a new semester, new classes, new friends, and for some of us, a new place to live as well!
If you've read my previous posts, you know my fall semester was rough. A wise woman told me, "Wait until spring," and now that it's here, I'm expecting all the good things that are supposed to come to me now that I've waited. After making it through four-fifths of syllabus week, I've decided that having a positive attitude about this semester is the smartest way to go. Things I'm looking forward to:
1. Initiation. Oh my stinking goodness, I'm so excited. I love my sisters and I can't wait to officially be a Chi Omega. As a sophomore, I think I'm even more excited to be initiated because I'll feel like I'm on a more level playing field with the girls in my grade. Also, two of my best friends from high school who are Chi Os are coming to my initiation. What could be better than that?! Nothing. I'm beaming just thinking about it.
2. No pomping. Reason Numero Uno why fall semester was such a drag. Don't get me wrong, I love that Oklahoma State holds America's Greatest Homecoming and that Chi O dominated everything in it, but suriously.........I was prepared to commit bodily harm against myself to get out of pomping hours. I am more than willing to wait another seven months before having to go through that again.
3. Spring is coming!! Yes, today's weather was awful. Yes, I hate winter. [NOTE: Don't resent/judge me if you like snow and think I'm a "snow hater." More likely than not, you're from Texas, where it barely ever snows, and you think it's great and pretty and fun when it snows. Awesome. Good for you. Go ahead and move to Nebraska and live there for six years and deal with winters where you can't see around the corners of street intersections because of snow drifts, and then tell me how you like snow.] But when spring semester starts, there is spring to look forward to! Beautiful flowers in the Library Garden, breaking out the Chacos, admiring people's tanned legs (I can't manage to get mine to do it, so I just gaze at other people's wistfully)...I just love the atmosphere. I can't wait until it's here.
4. Running outside again. I have my little route I run around campus, and I love it. Few things makes me happier than when we have a randomly warm day in the middle of December and I can run outside in a t-shirt and norts. However, one of the few things that does make me happier is when that weather comes, and it sticks around! In fall I know winter is coming, but in spring the warm weather has just begun. And as much as I adore the Colvin, running inside just isn't the same. The runner's high is wilder, freer, more joyful when it happens outside; I don't know why, but it just is. It's beautiful, and I can't get enough.
There are plenty of other things that make me excited for spring, but these are the ones that first come to mind. With the life and energy that spring brings, I'm smiling at the future, and hoping this will be the best semester yet.
